I’m always trying to squeeze in some screen printing at any available opportunity. This quarters been rough so far, but I’ve managed to get some in.

I’ll try and keep this one short and sweet. I’ve been needing some new threads, so I printed up a few shirts with a couple designs for my screen printing biz that I’ve been messing around with. I think they came out great, check ‘em out in the gallery below. As for the parking sign, I have some of the most inconsiderate neighbors out there. So I’ve been spending tons of time continually experimenting with screen printing.Heres a couple shirts I made up for a good friend with an obnoxious disposition, which I hope comes across in the couple of shirt designs I made up for him. The first shirt was an addition to an already printed shirt featuring Kobe Bryant. He wanted the shirt to mock all the “haters” of Kobe, and celebrate his awesomeness. For the back I did a simple typographic design with the copy he wanted and the counter of the 4 made up with the years that Kobe won the NBA Championship. For the second shirt I designed the front and the back. Again I wanted a simple design to showcase my friends love for plantains. The front is a halftone image of  a bunch of plantains, and the back is a Nutritional Facts label. Its all meant to be fun and playful and I think definitely telling of my buddy’s personality. Ugh, I wish I had some plantain chips right now… or some Mofongo or even some Platanos. I gotta get my dad to overnight me some… hint hint. Overall I love how the shirts came out and I’m excited over my increasingly sharp skills with the medium. Hopefully they go over the same way with him!

After my last couple of failed attempts with using silkscreen to produce work I decided to get much more serious about the medium. I was referred to the above book by my professor after discussing the problems I had with the Rauschenberg book. It has become my personal bible, and completely changed my approach to screen printing. I highly recommend that if you are at all serious about getting into screen printing that you go here and buy it now. With its help I’ve managed to work all the kinks out of process, with perfect exposures and prints. With guidance from within its pages I built a t-shirt rig and a poster printing table. Its recommendations helped me spend my money wisely on upgrading my tools. I can’t say enough about how this book has helped me. Check out the work I’ve done so far in the gallery of images. I hope it goes without saying that I’m really excited about pushing the limits and producing some really great work in the near future. I’ll be sure to make short posts of the shirts and posters I do from now on.

So I’ve been needing a new sketchbook for a while now. So instead of buying one I’ve been putting it off until I had the time to make one. I’ve worked with book making in the past for school (you’ll see that in an upcoming post), and as gifts for friends. Finally I had the time to take and make myself a nice book to last a long while. The cover is cardboard I stripped away to show the corrugated insides, leftover binders board, hemp for the binding, craft paper for the spine and inside liners and leftover drawing paper from last quarter for the pages. Nothing compares to the feeling of spending the time to make something instead of going out and buying it, plus where else could I get such a bad-ass sketchbook? I feel like it came out really nice and durable, I expect to have and use this book for a long time to come.

Looking through some old images, I stumbled upon these two guys.

This is such an old project that I cant remember when I made it. I would guess about a year and a half ago or so. Cyn (my ex) wanted a new wallet so I set about making a duct tape wallet. I had seen a lot of wallets online, but I wasn’t really impressed. So with my regular wallet as a loose guide I made this one up as I went. The entire thing is made of duct tape except for the clear piece of plastic over the drivers license. Not only does it look pretty cool, she’s still using it! hehe.

This is a side project I did over the winter break from school. My and Cyn (my gf) where really interested in getting a bistro set for the back of our apartment. In short, those things are expensive! I built this one for 25 bucks, then Cyn picked up a couple chairs for $20 more. I did NOT steal this sign. I’ve had it and acquired it quite legit-ly. It was a great weekend project. Check it out!
