Final: Rauschenberg Book (Graphic Design Studio 1)
For the final in Studio 1, I was tasked with making a book based on an art movement or artist.I chose to do a book on Robert Rauschenberg, someone whose work has greatly inspired me as of late. If your not familiar with the work of this great artist, easily considered one of the best American artists ever, I suggest you take a some time to look some stuff up on him. I created this before my last post, but just got around to fixing up the images and posting it up. It involves the same basic process, the difference being a more involved focus on making the craftsmanship perfect. The cover took top priority in my planning phase. I wanted to make a cover that invoked the feeling of Rauschenberg’s found object artwork. After a lot of time spent on experimentation I obviously ended up using more conservative materials then my original inspiration. I started out playing with using more exotic materials and processes, such as plexiglass, screen printing, and double covers. The end result was a decision I had to make for the sake of time, but I feel like it turned out much better then any of the other directions I was exploring. Unfortunately all the fuss over the cover left me with less then ample time to finish the rest of the book. It ended up having to come together rather quickly. Though at the end, I am definitely satisfied and proud of the outcome. It was a tough challenge with a tight deadline fitting of a final capping off a tough class. I could go on and on as so many elements went into this project, but I’ll just leave it to the images to showcase the work.
